Finding pickup trucks under $40,000 isn't always the easiest exercise, with prices climbing close to six digits for some of the swankier models.

Thus, we've put together a list of five pickup trucks between $30,000 and $40,000 with a minimum of 300 hp and a towing capacity of at least 8,000 lbs so you can find one that's well-equipped and ready to go. Whether it's your work vehicle, your weekend toy hauler, or just the vehicle of choice, this list (arranged in no particular order) can help you find a good truck that is budget friendly.

Toyota

2022 Toyota Tundra - Around $36,000

Toyota's full-size pickup features offer two engine options: a twin-turbocharged 3.4L V6 or a 3.5L twin-turbo V6 hybrid, the latter of which produces up to 437 hp and 583 lb.-ft. of torque. To stay under the $40,000 benchmark, opt for the non-hybrid engine, which still produces 348 hp and 405 lb.-ft. of torque and clocks an EPA-estimated 20 mpg combined. There's also a vertical rear window that opens with the push of a button so you can increase cabin airflow in a snap. The Tundra also comes with a whopping 14-inch multimedia touch screen in the center of the cabin. It's towing capacity? 8,300 lbs.

Ford

2022 Ford F-250 Super Duty - Around $37,000

The most flexible and customizable of all the Ford trucks, it is easy to get carried away while building a Super Duty. To keep these pickup trucks under $40,000, you'll stick to the F-250 XL with its efficient flex-fuel V8 engine which produces 385 hp and 430 lb.-ft. torque. This trim features manual telescoping and folding mirrors, two tow hooks, and a removable, locking tailgate. After that, you can customize everything from the axle to the size of the fuel tank to the upholstery on the seat bench. There are also one-door, one-and-a-half-door, and two-door cab options, depending on your crew load. As for towing, the Super Duty has a max towing capacity of 15,000 lbs.

GMC

2022 GMC Sierra - Around $35,000

Whether you'd like to tow almost 12,000 lbs or up to 36,000 lbs, the GMC Sierra is there to make it happen. Both the base Sierra and the Sierra HD start under $40,000, with the Sierra Denali Ultimate being the most luxurious Sierra with the price tag to match. There's also an available MultiPro Tailgate, which is GMC's equivalent of a Swiss Army Knife—it's a step, it's a tailgate extension, it's a workstation, and so on. Choose the 2.7L turbo engine to stay on budget and enjoy an EPA-estimated 19/22/20 mpg city/highway/combined and 310 hp and 420 lb.-ft. of torque.

Chevrolet

2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTD - Around $30,000

For over 20 years, the Chevrolet Silverado has been among the best-selling trucks in the country. One of the reasons is its flexible configurations. To keep this truck under the $40,000 benchmark, opt for the two-wheel-drive Crew Cab with the standard bed. The 2.7L turbocharged engine produces 310 hp and 348 lb.-ft. of torque and includes a tow/haul mode, automatic stop/start, and electric power steering. The towing capacity of this Silverado is 8,900 lbs. Inside, the Silverado offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, two USB ports, and a rear-seat reminder so you don't leave important things in the back seat. There's also a Teen Driver system so you can customize the truck's setting based on the driver's key fob.

Ram

2022 RAM 2500 Tradesman - Around $37,000

This truck comes standard with a 6.4L HEMI engine, which delivers up to 410 hp and 428 lb.-ft. of torque. With heavy-duty suspension and a 32-gallon fuel truck, the 2500 Tradesman is well-equipped for the working person. If things outside get dirty, your cabin can stay breathable thanks to the RAM Clean Air System. For your mobile devices, access your music, podcasts, or books using the audio jack or charge up using the two USBs. The 2500 Tradesman also comes with a full-size spare tire and all-season tires, plus it'll tow over 14,000 lbs.

Trucks may come in thousands of setups these days, many of which can be far beyond what the average person may need or want. These pickup trucks under $40,000 easily show that keeping things simple can still get you a bunch of features at a less expensive price.
