Toyota

2022 Toyota Tundra - Around $36,000

Toyota's full-size pickup features offer two engine options: a twin-turbocharged 3.4L V6 or a 3.5L twin-turbo V6 hybrid, the latter of which produces up to 437 hp and 583 lb.-ft. of torque. To stay under the $40,000 benchmark, opt for the non-hybrid engine, which still produces 348 hp and 405 lb.-ft. of torque and clocks an EPA-estimated 20 mpg combined. There's also a vertical rear window that opens with the push of a button so you can increase cabin airflow in a snap. The Tundra also comes with a whopping 14-inch multimedia touch screen in the center of the cabin. It's towing capacity? 8,300 lbs.

2022 Ford F-250 Super Duty - Around $37,000

The most flexible and customizable of all the Ford trucks, it is easy to get carried away while building a Super Duty. To keep these pickup trucks under $40,000, you'll stick to the F-250 XL with its efficient flex-fuel V8 engine which produces 385 hp and 430 lb.-ft. torque. This trim features manual telescoping and folding mirrors, two tow hooks, and a removable, locking tailgate. The 2.7L turbocharged engine produces 310 hp and 348 lb.-ft. of torque and includes a tow/haul mode, automatic stop/start, and electric power steering. The towing capacity of this Silverado is 8,900 lbs.
