These Are the Last 2022 Manual Transmission Cars You Can Buy Today

The manual transmission is dying a slow death. In the U.S., consumers continue to show an intense thirst for pickup trucks, SUVs, and crossovers, essentially annihilating the passenger car segment where the stick once thrived. With each new generation, refresh, and model year change, stick-shift availability becomes scarcer. But, if you’re still in the market for a new 2022 car with manual transmission, you can choose from the following list.
BMW
2022 BMW M3 and BMW M4
The standard M3 sedan and M4 coupe are the only BMW models to offer a six-speed manual transmission. Buyers seeking a clutch pedal must be smitten with 473 horsepower from the 3.0-liter, turbocharged inline-six because BMW doesn’t offer any of the higher-powered M3/M4 performance versions with a manual transmission.

2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing
In recent times, Cadillac has been turning out some sharp-handling machinery with potent powertrains. The CT4-V Blackwing is a verse in the brand’s swan song as it moves toward an all-electric future, but in the meantime, you can enjoy a six-speed manual paired with a spicy 472-hp, twin-turbocharged, 3.6L V6 engine.

The next verse in Cadillac’s farewell to high-performance, gasoline powertrains is the CT5-V Blackwing sporting a six-speed gearbox leveraging 668 hp produced by a 6.2L, supercharged V8 and all the symphonic glory that comes with eight cylinders afire.

2022 Chevrolet Camaro
Pony cars were born to engage drivers, and even today the Camaro doesn’t disappoint by offering a six-speed manual to pair with every available engine and trim. The Camaro is your oyster, enabling you to choose a stick with a coupe or convertible and match it with a 2.0L turbo, 3.6L V6, 6.2L V8, or supercharged 6.2L V8.

2022 Chevrolet Spark
The simplicity of a stick goes hand in hand with simple transportation like the Chevrolet Spark. The 1.4L, four-cylinder engine is available with a five-speed manual transmission in the LS, 1LT, ACTIV, and 2LT trims.

And, as much as we’d like to see a stick return in the SRT Hellcat, we aren’t holding our breath.

Mustang and Camaro have always gone toe-to-toe, and while the current Mustang doesn’t offer a stick in every combination as Camaro does, there are still plenty of variants from which to choose. Coupe shoppers can select a stick paired with the 2.3L EcoBoost engine in EcoBoost Fastback and EcoBoost Premium Fastback trims. Row your own in a 5.0L V8 with a choice of GT Fastback, GT Premium Fastback, Mach 1, and Mach 1 Premium trims. Drop-top shoppers can enjoy sun and stick in an EcoBoost Convertible and EcoBoost Premium Convertible or the GT Premium Convertible with its 5.0L V8.

2022 Honda Civic
Honda no longer offers a manual transmission in its regular Civic sedan, but you can still opt for a Civic Hatchback with a six-speed in Sport or Sport Touring trims. The Sport Touring offers a 180-hp, 1.5L turbocharged engine, but for even more kicks, go for the 200-hp, manual-only Civic Si sedan.

2022 Hyundai Elantra

As Mazda continues moving upscale and closer to premium-car territory, the brand that once prided itself on “zoom-zoom,” fun-to-drive cars continues to shed its stick-shift offerings. The current Mazda3 is only available with a six-speed as a hatchback in Premium trim with front-wheel drive.

Removing a manual transmission from the MX-5 Miata would be like taking potatoes out of potato salad. Thankfully Mazda hasn’t done that and still offers a glorious six-speed manual in the soft top’s Sport, Club, and Grand Touring trims. You can find the same transmission in the MX-5 RF (power-folding hardtop) Club and Grand Touring trims.

The Mini Cooper has grown over the years and has even sprouted a few extra doors, but a manual transmission is still offered on Cooper and Cooper S variants, whether they have two doors, four doors, or a convertible. The coupe is the only one to offer a manual in the souped-up John Cooper Works model.

Nissan’s entry-level sedan, the Versa, comes standard with a five-speed manual transmission, but it’s only available on the base S trim with a 122-hp, 1.6L four-cylinder.

Clutch-lovers, rejoice. Every version of the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman, except for the top Cayman GT4 RS, comes with a manual transmission. This fitment includes base, T, S, GTS 4.0, (Boxster) Spyder, and (Cayman) GT4 deviations.

Like the Mazda MX-5, a 911 wouldn’t be the same without a stick. But even the quintessential sports car isn’t immune to the onslaught of automated transmissions. Under the skin, the Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR86 are almost identical. Motivated by a 228-hp, 2.4-liter boxer engine, a six-speed manual sends power to the rear wheels as standard in either Premium or Limited trims.

While the Toyota Corolla might lack an exciting aura, it does offer a six-speed manual in the sedan SE or SE Apex and hatchback SE or XSE trims. If you want genuine excitement, the forthcoming 2023 Corolla GR hot hatch is going to be a hoot with all-wheel drive, 300 hp, and a rev-matching six-speed manual as the sole transmission option. Even though Volkswagen no longer sells the regular Golf here in the U.S., we’re relieved the automaker left us with the hatch’s sportiest iterations. The 241-hp GTI is fitted with a six-speed manual in all three—S, SE, and Autobahn—trims. We are even more fortunate to get the Golf R with its 315 hp, AWD, and of course, six-speed manual transmission.

2022 Volkswagen Jetta
The Jetta continues to offer a six-speed manual transmission in both S and Sport form, paired with a 158-hp, 1.5L turbo-four, but you can crank up the excitement by selecting the stick in the Jetta GLI with its 228 hp.
