The Mercedes-Benz CL-Class is a large luxury coupe and sportier counterpart to the flagship S-Class sedan. Mercedes produced three generations of the car from 1998 until 2014. The CL-Class nameplate appeared in 1998, attached to the former S-Class Coupe. Mercedes redesigned the CL again in 2000, 2007, and 2015, which is when it returned to the S-Class lineup as the revived S-Class Coupe. Updates and new features rolled out between the coupe’s  first year and 2011 to include two AMG-tuned performance models,  all-wheel drive, an optional rear-seat entertainment system, twin-turbo V8s, improved safety features, and spruced-up styling. Mercedes didn’t significantly update the CL-Class again after that and shelved the nameplate at the end of 2014.
